Joys of Womanhood - Introducing

During this year, I had my share of deep personal female encounters. They mostly mentioned, in one way or another, abortion, pregnancy or childbirth troubles, and not really understanding their own bodies. These were heartbreaking conversations and I was left speechless every single time. I wanted to answer something wise and that helped any of these women, but I couldn't. In fact, I couldn't even answer most of my own questions.

I started thinking about having kids, and suddenly froze with the possibility of having a girl. What would I talk to her about? How would I teach her about the female body, not being comfortable or knowledgeable about my own?
How would you?

Also during this year, and being in a happy relationship, I decided it was time to stop taking the pill - Not to start family planning, but mostly to make sure everything would be OK and I could deal with possible fertility issues or cycle irregularities before I actually wanted to have a baby.

The female gynecologist I went to quickly dismissed me with “If eventually you want to get pregnant start looking at what type of salt you buy”, not even a mention to the possible hormonal changes I was about to get. That was laughable to say the least, and I felt very unsupported.
(Note: If this has happened to you before, and you felt dismissed and unattended to, you are not alone! An important read about traditional medicine and the female body is Everything below the waist, by Jennifer Block).

All of this together made me think I needed to change something, and I needed help. I found an amazing one year course in Lisbon called “Saúde Integral da Mulher”, in Instituto Macrobiótico, which I started in September. This is proving to be a very complete, life-changing course on oh-so-many-women-related things.

Have you ever been curious about your mood swings, headaches, and how to take care of yourself in a more specific, holistic way? How you can improve your health, your sexuality, and your physical stamina? How to take advantage of more natural resources and be less dependent on chemicals or the pill? How to improve your fertility chances and understand how your cycle really works?

If any of this sounds mildly interesting to you make sure to check everything I will be writing related to this course.
I decided to assemble information that I know will be useful for so many of "my" women, my wonderful circles of friends - And of course, any woman who wants to learn a little bit more about themselves. So, let me be your guide in this amazing journey!
I hope you enjoy it and start learning more about yourself.

Happy reading!
